Playground

In the modern Greek city, the playgrounds present great problems as there was no institutionalized design and management process until a few years ago, but also due to the lack of reflection and cooperation of different specialties that had to provide knowledge related to the aesthetics, safety and pedagogical quality of the play areas. Today's public space is not available to children as it was several years ago. Without free plots with streets and sidewalks full of parked cars, there is little room left for activities and play facilities. Local government bodies are primarily responsible for the design and configuration of public play areas and much more importantly for their supervision and maintenance. In 2008, the Project Management Team of the Ministry of Interior was formed in order to create the legislative framework for the establishment and operation of playgrounds. In 2009, with the Ministerial Decision 28492/Government Gazette 931/Β/18-5-09 and in 2014 with the amending Ministerial Decision 27934/Government Gazette2029/Β/25-7-14, a huge gap that existed in the legislation on the design and maintenance of the outdoor play areas under the jurisdiction of local authorities was filled. Our office, knowing the relevant legislation and having many years of experience in outdoor design issues, cooperated with many local authorities providing complex services related to the playgrounds. More specifically, our office provides services for :

Carrying out inspections in the existing playground areas as well as in the courtyards of nurseries and schools under the responsibility of municipalities to assess the suitability and safety of these areas as well as their certification possibilities.
Establishment of criteria for the selection of equipment, design and reconstruction of the play areas, according to the needs of the Municipalities and in addition to those defined in the Ministerial decisions.
Design of standard playgrounds, with a transformation in their space of the goals set by the new institutional framework.
Compilation of a model playground file based on which the Municipality will be able to organize the control, certification, reconstruction, operation and maintenance of each playground.

Our interdisciplinary team includes, on a case-by-case basis, surveyors, planters, photographers, visual artists and instrument suppliers. In recent years, social contribution and communication projects of private sector companies have been implemented. In these projects, our office, in addition to the preparation of the study up to the implementation stage, also undertakes the high supervision of the project to be implemented.
