Configuration of an existing playground
Configuration of an existing playground
The playground is part of a wider free space. It is an area that has a strong attendance as for the children of the neighborhood it is one of the few places of play and sports activity. The play area has an area of about 865 m2 and can be configured for three age groups. Redefining access was the first step in the design proposal. The proposed entrances allow a better organization of the main course within the play area. The space outside the main entrance functions as a vestibule and can host free play or even function as an amphitheater for an event. The playground is organized in sub-areas that are not strictly separated from each other but follow each other. Four sub-areas (hexagons) are formed where the playing instruments are placed. The hexagons have different sizes and function as sandbags filled with pebbles according to the specifications. The concrete wall located on the west side of the space, in contact with the sports center, is transformed into a continuous linear living room. A second corresponding linear living room is constructed to the east of the space near the main entrance. Except for the fall floors that surround the playing instruments, all the rest of the floor of the space is paved with a stabilized ceramic floor. As the lack of adequate shading was read, in critical areas of the playground, it was proposed to build a grid of shading awnings. The awnings, triangular sails on piles, are distinct constructions and shade the living area of the attendants.
