Offices of the Center for Atmospheric Physics and Climatology
The proposal concerned the reconstruction of the bequest of Lampadari, of the Academy of Athens, an existing office building located on Syggrou Street, to be housed in this Center of Atmospheric Physics and Climatology of the Academy of Athens. The aim of the proposal was for the building to be a model for the conversion of an existing shell into an energy building, combining both its functional and aesthetic enhancement. The shape of the building as a whole is being remodeled as a new outer shell is added to it from a metal frame that covers both sides towards the streets as well as the roof. The northwest side, on Syggrou Avenue, is covered by a metal construction, curved in shape, which then covers the roof that is treated as the fifth side of the building. In this frame are placed shading blinds and photovoltaic blinds in alternation depending on the needs of viewing and shading of the building. On the southwest side there is a vertical curtain that is far from the main building volume and which has vertical surfaces with photovoltaic and thermal-solar elements. The existing shell is being upgraded as a whole. The small building on its roof is being reconstructed, giving the possibility of creating a covered common area with planted sections and a view from the Acropolis to Faliro.
