Design for the protection and enhancement of the Tatoi estate

Design for the protection and enhancement of the Tatoi estate

With the completion of the study, for the first time, collected and complete material was secured both for the existing situation and for the proposal for the future development and operation of the park in the area of the former Royal Estates of Tatoi. The approach most of the time was fragmentary and intensely building-centric, the analyses of the rich building potential of the estate often failed to mention equally the excellent natural environment. The proposal comes to organize the already existing dynamics that have been developed by its visitors. The aim is to transform Tatoi into a Suburban Metropolitan Park of the Capital, important for improving the quality of life of the inhabitants of the Basin. Through the infrastructure and activities that will take place in it, the Park will become an attractive friendly space for all ages throughout the year. The development of the former royal estate in Tatoi is primarily based on the restoration and reopening of the Farm. Education and research are actively involved in shaping the character of the Metropolitan Park. With relatively small initial investment costs, this operation is largely based on cooperation with educational and research institutions, management bodies, NGOs and volunteers. Recreation along with sports is today the dominant function performed in the field. Without an organized base, the former Royal Estates are already a favorite destination for many Athenians who flood the Central Core, the area of Platanos and Makrychorafos on holidays throughout the year. In the proposed plan, this function is encouraged, enriched and organized so that, without becoming expensive and excluding visitors, it contributes to the development of the Metropolitan Park. A few refreshments in strategic locations are sufficient for mild consumption while in the Central Core there are dining areas. A small hotel is formed right on the edge, outside the fence, in the building of the Barracks. The museum - historical dimension of the Estate is organized with a basic reference to the Palace and the hill of Paleokastro. The Palace itself has symbolic and historical significance and a special aesthetic. Its transformation into a museum leads to a shell - exhibit, main attraction for visitors and symbolic carrier of the genius loci of Tatoi. The building of the Tomb Guard in Palaiokastro will be restored and will house archaeological findings of Dhekelia. Finally, the proposal includes the reconstitution of the royal gardens.
