Restoration of the facades of the mansion of Hadjichristos
"Hadjichristou Mansion" is located in the historic center of Lamia, on the west side of Eleftherias Square, on the corner of Sklivaniotou Street. Eleftherias Square is one of the most important public areas of the city. There is no exact date of construction for the building. It was built in the second half of the 19th century and more specifically between the period 1860-1882, as it is also depicted in a topographic plan. It is a two-storey stone building covered with a triple roof covered with Byzantine tiles, built in a continuous building system. Its floor plan is rectangular with general dimensions 13.15x15.10 m. With the long side on the square. The entrance to the shops is from the east side with five arched openings. The entrance to the floor is with an external staircase located in a courtyard to the south of the building. It is a typical example of a neoclassical house, one of the few preserved today in the city of Lamia. Although significantly altered, it retains the necessary information which, in combination with the documentation obtained from archival research, helped to complete the restoration study. It has been designated a protected monument with Government Gazette 883 BD / 02-07-2003 according to the provisions of Law 3028/02, by decision of the Ministry of Culture. The description states in more detail: neoclassical and neo-renaissance, from the few surviving of this kind in Lamia ". In other words, it is a monument with both historical and artistic value. The aim of the project is the restoration of the facades in the whole building and the functional and cultural upgrade of the premises of the Federation of Professional Craftsmen of Fthiotida. The restoration of the facades of the mansion contributes both to the development of Sklivaniotou Street into a street with many important restored buildings (Metropolitan Palace, City Hall) and to the enrichment of Eleftherias Square with another important historic building besides the Prefectural Palace and the Metropolitan Church. In the spaces that belong to the Federation, the creation of a modern space of multiple cultural activities is foreseen.
