Regeneration of the Agios Nikolaos plateau
Regeneration of the Agios Nikolaos plateau
The plateau is located in the area around the church of Ag. Nikolaou in the town of Gargalianoi. It is characterized by the irregular shape that follows the altitude fluctuations of the area and is surrounded by private houses and plots west and east, from the municipal road Kapodistriou south, while north meets the ecosystem of the stream. The main synthetic gesture of the proposal was the unification of the aforementioned sub-regions. The area around the church building was pedestrianized and the boundaries were redefined with light curvatures. The course of the car was defined by stone walls that follow the straight and curved outlines of the study and by planted flower beds. In the trace of the curved carvings, on the southeastern side of the plateau, high planting was foreseen to create a visual barrier and to separate the different functional units. Areas with seating areas have been created in areas where the trees offer dense shading. Living rooms were also placed behind the temple in a place with interesting visual escapes. The raised surface is offered as a platform-step for ceremonies of religious and cultural events. The re-paving of the road on Kapodistriou Street ensured a sufficient surface for the creation of a playground for children from two to ten years old. A pedestrian zone separates the playground from the neighboring houses.
