Kapnergati square regeneration

Kapnergati square regeneration

The square is surrounded by very important, and high aesthetic, buildings for the history of the city of Kavala. The most important of these is the Municipal tobacco warehouse on its north side. The main objective is the formation of a continuous surface that organizes spaces for stopping and gathering the public but also to welcome the movements of pedestrians. The geometry of the engraving results precisely from the manipulation of movements and external boundaries. The flooring unifies a larger part than that of the immediate intervention area and brings together the needs of assembly and recreation. In the square, through the proper adaptation of the slopes, the movements are arranged and two basic plateaus of assembly are organized: the "inside" and the "outside" square. The "inside" square occupies the lowest level of the space, is formed on a surface with a slight inclination and is bounded west and north by vertical surfaces that compose visual barriers, while it turns southeast to the interesting and influential buildings of the surrounding area. The "outside" square operates at the middle level of the space and is a unit connecting the square with the important surrounding pedestrian movements.
