Conversion into a multi-cultural space of the building of Metaxourgeio factory
The monument, originally designed as a shopping center by Chr. Hansen, appears in the plans of the city of Athens from 1834. Then it was transformed into the industrial building of the Metaxourgio of Athens. At the beginning of the 19th century it was finally formed into houses. It is located on the corner of Meg. Alexandrou and Millerou streets. With the opening of Germanikou Street, the complex split into two parts. The object of the project is the conversion of the building complex of Metaxourgeio for the installation of various cultural activities of the Municipality of Athens. The aim of the study is to restore the building to the form it had at the time it was used as a silk mill. The documentation of the morphological elements of this period results from drawings and elements that were identified during the relevant archival research. The building inside is reinforced and all the necessary spaces of the new use are included in it.
