Repair of a building for the housing of the Diocese of the Holy Metropolis of Nea Smyrni

On a plot of land near the Holy Temple of Agia Fotini is a beautiful two-storey house with basement, closed parking space and roof. The building, built in 1947, immediately after the war, is characterized by morphological consistency and is a late example of interwar architecture. Its relatively small structured volume, with the exception of the urban fabric of Nea Smyrni, offers a small landscape of special aesthetic value in a key position of the city. The building received a newer separation intervention in the horizontal sense in two houses. During this intervention, the internal staircase was removed and a separate entrance was created to the floor apartment, with the addition of an external staircase. The environment, the house, space is formed in a small pleasant yard, but today very neglected. The building has a small basement, boiler room and has access through a narrow wooden round staircase to the roof. Particular morphological elements are the semi-cylindrical volumes of the ground floor and the first floor, the end of the staircase and the circular windows. As part of the restoration of the building, the residence of the Bishop of the Holy Metropolis of Nea Smyrni is planned to be housed. The building is being restored to its original original version with an internal staircase and elevator, underground utility rooms and a roof. On the ground floor of the now single building there are two large rooms, one for the meetings of the priests of the Metropolis and one for the official meetings of the Bishop. Otherwise the ground floor includes an office, archive, a nave, guest room and auxiliary spaces. The floor is formed in the private residence of the Bishop with his personal office, library, archive and the necessary auxiliary spaces.
