Configuration of common areas of hotel and swimming pool

The object of the study was the construction of a swimming pool and the improvement of the common reception and dining areas of the Mykonos Beach Hotel. The hotel is located in a particularly advantageous location south of the settlement of Mykonos Town and 50m. from the beach of Megali Ammos. All the common and private areas of the accommodation have excellent views, west of the beach of Megali Ammos, the rocky islet baos and northwest to one of the most famous sights of Mykonos, the Windmills. The interventions carried out in the various stages of the hotel's construction had as their primary objective the integration of the buildings in the landscape and the preservation of the traditional style. The morphology, materials and structures of the complex's constructions refer to the images and textures of the traditional settlements of Mykonos. The reconstruction proposal moved in two directions. The first concerns the functional organization of the reception areas, satisfying the needs of the building program and the access requirements of A.M.E.A. and the second concerns the upgrading of the accommodation by forming a swimming pool in the hotel's courtyard. The aim of the proposal was the construction of a small swimming pool and its integration both in the natural landscape and in the surrounding area of the hotel with the minimum possible interventions. The smooth adaptation to the existing relief is made in parallel with the effortless connection with the rearrangement of the common areas within the building's shell. At the same time, through this intervention, the signalling of the entrance to the hotel is attempted. Its curved outline is submerged in the ground while the wall on the west side is developed linearly following the access road to the hotel. As from a point onwards the wall turns to the rock, it allows the terrain to penetrate between it and the existing wall of the road. In this section, an artificial waterfall is created that enhances the integration of the pool into the natural landscape. The required auxiliary spaces of the engine room and the water tank are located, next to and under the swimming pool. For the better adaptation of the area under development to the relief, small levels with a small number of stairs are formed on both the north and south side of the swimming pool. From these levels there is the possibility of different viewing and stopping points for visitors, ensuring them different quality spaces and different shade conditions. For the construction of the level north of the swimming pool, the trace of the existing wall that holds the slope is followed, reinforced and raised by 40 cm. the stone construction and placed deck of suitable timber; The terraces, which are re-constructed in continuation of the existing configurations, offer the possibility of their use as living rooms and strengthen the traditional style of the hotel.
